Balance Within Relationships

Relationships are something which are very complicated. You are going into an emotional bond with a completely different person. That in itself is very intimidating. But the key is always going to be balance. You have to be able to find that balance, not only for the relationship but for yourself. Maintaining your individuality is one of the most important parts of that balance.

We always find that when you are in a relationship, balance must exist. Going into everything, you were two completely different people. You might find that you have more in common with the other than you would think, but you will be two people no matter what. Because of this, you have to make sure you stay true to yourself. Over time you will change, but that is natural. You cannot be in a relationship where your individuality is altered, and as a person your significant other does not appreciate you being you. Doing the things you love will always ensure that you don’t change.

Regardless of the situation, whether you are dating, engaged, working things out, married, you have to be yourself. Like I said, over time you will change but it is natural. However, being forced to change is probably the most toxic thing that you can experience. When you get into that situation simply put “Abort Mission”. Without the balance in life, and individuality you cannot have a flourishing relationship, as most of the time, you will forget about who you are. It is healthy to worry and care more than anything, but when it gets to a point where you are doing the caring, and the other isn’t it takes a huge toll on you.

When you have any situation where something like this happens, you have to be sure you never forget you. You are the reason the relationship started (hopefully) seeing the soul of the person you love and care so much about. Look back, or even look into it now, and see where you stand. Relationships will always be extremely complicated, but it doesn’t have to be hard. When you truly love someone, everything comes so naturally you barely have to try. Even when you are putting everything into it, it won’t feel like hard work.

The big thing to take away is where you have balance, you have individuality. The relationships with balance tend to be more tenured, or become tenured. You are a valued piece of the puzzle, and you can never lose yourself.

  1. Easier said than done. It’s hard work to find the balance. It can be a struggle to be true to yourself whilst “compromising” with strong willed dominating partner.
    Any tips on being assertive?

    • Hey Zara,

The biggest thing you can do in a situation like that is remembering who you are. I’ve been through some very tough relationships as well, while looking back, I lost who I was, and stopped truly being me.

Yes, there has to be a sort of compromise, but that doesn’t mean losing you. The biggest thing I think is actually stepping back and assessing the situation. I’m not an assertive person at all, but when it comes down to it (Now at least) I refuse to lose who I am again. Just take a look at your values, and the things that make you you. From there it’ll be a bit easier to fight for what you’re passionate about.

Hopefully that somewhat answers your question!

      Thanks for reading!
