Being impulsive has always been second nature to me, but I have made a few bad decisions along the way.
Impulsiveness and life
During the past December I was alone at home for a week or so. My parents and siblings were barely gone for 3 hours and I had the urge to buy an Xbox 360. I quickly checked for prices and was lucky enough to find a great deal. My impulsiveness kicked in and I bought it, using my credit card, thinking I could quickly pay it back.
It’s now the start of the year and I can feel the pressure from this impulsive purchase. I have things to pay but I need to think of my credit card debt. The Xbox was not a smart purchase at all! My little brother is using it more than I do, so there is a slight benefit.
When to be impulsive?
I quickly realized that I need to know when to be impulsive! The idea came to me about when to be impulsive. I know it may feel like you have to plan it but it doesn’t have to be. From now on when I feel like being impulsive I think to myself, ‘Will this benefit me 6 months, 1 year or even 5 years from now?’. If the answer is no then I consider it to be a bad choice, but if the answer is yes then I go right ahead.
There are certain decisions that are obviously bad decisions and should be avoided, but the good decisions should really be considered. I usually don’t plan too far ahead but I have an idea of where I want to be and what I want to accomplish.
So be careful about being impulsive but don’t overthink it; and please don’t stress about it!
