Overcoming the Hurdles of Starting a Clothing Brand

So this might be a long shot, but I’ve recently embarked on a journey to start a clothing brand with: me.

This has been one of the biggest things I have wanted to do for many years now, and finally after a bit of trial and error, and a ton of stress the day has come where the brand is finally launched! Opia Clothing Company is a street wear clothing brand that focuses on the details and quality, without having the huge price.

The biggest thing that I wanted to do was create a story, much like I try to provoke thought here, and convey it through the designs.

Finding out it isn’t Easy

When you are starting up a business, no matter what type, it is absolutely never easy to do.

Nowadays in every industry it is extremely hard to stand out fully, not just with brand image, but with your product or service. So with that, you will hit a wall and hit it hard. However, the glory of this whole endeavor is that you have to get back up and tear that wall down.

There is a reason that so many people “fail” at starting a business within the first year. Because it isn’t easy.

Overcoming Obstacles in Business

We all know there are so many things we have to do when it comes to opening a business. Adversary is a huge thing that is a reason that we struggle. But it just takes time, to learn, and to grow not only as a business.

When you are faced with obstacles, you have to understand them. Take the counter-attack very seriously, but in the end you have to put all the cards on the table.

I’ve actually done this whole clothing brand thing before, and I learned from it (which is why things are done right now). It did take time in order for me to actually get back into the whole brand thing, but I did it.

Taking Advantage of your Passions

The big thing in business is to be passionate about what you are doing. I have talked to people in the past that have said they don’t know how they can do it, well that is a easy solution, just go for it.

Being passionate about your career is a must no matter what you are doing, but the biggest thing I can’t stress enough is the fact that the freedom of working for yourself is amazing.

But the more troubling thing is that we settle.

Its not just the career thing, but just settling into that routine. With that oftentimes we do that for our entire lives.

Now that doesn’t sound like a great way to live eh?

Actually Taking that Step to Create a Business

This is the hardest thing to do.

If you have an idea, make it happen. The process is pretty simple if you think about it (despite all the obstacles):

  • You have an Idea
  • Research the market and see if someone else has had that idea
  • Determine how to make the Idea great
  • Put that into motion

Now there are more than just those things to get you off the ground, but it just takes getting started and doing it.

With my journey into fully creating Opia Clothing Company, I have learned so much; not just about running a business and budgeting and marketing, but about myself and what I am capable of.

I encourage all of you to really take that step, and make things happen. From there you will find that no matter what you do, you can create that lifestyle that you want.

I appreciate all of your support, and I definitely look forward to speaking to you guys more on the subject!

  1. Good luck with your venture. I’ve been following you for a while now, but not said much before. I really like your posts.

Now the flattery is over, I’m going to be very cheeky and ask you for a favour. (Not really flattery. I do enjoy reading them!)

I’ve written a book under the pen name of Emily Littler.

It’s a historical novel set in the time of Roman Britain. I decided to put it up on Kindle Scout. Kindle Scout is exactly what it says. Kindle scouting for authors who they then publish (rather than the author self-publishing.) They act just like the mainstream publishers in that they give an advance, (although small!) and do all the formatting and marketing as well as producing an audio version and foreign language translations.

In order to select the books, they hold a ballot. The book (s) with the most recommends will be accepted. All you need to do is click on the link below and then click on the button to nominate or recommend my book.

You can read extracts from it before you click, so you’re not nominating something you’ve not seen.

Please find a few seconds to help me. The link is below.
