The Definitive Guide to Self Motivation

The Root of Self Motivation

For a guide to self motivation as a whole, many of us struggle with finding it within ourselves to motivate us to push more and more to improve. But however, self motivation is not as unreachable as we might think. In this segment I will talk about some of the things that it truly takes in order to reach your goals.

A Guide to Self Motivation is an interesting topic because it involves finding something within ourselves. I like many people have struggled with self motivation in the past, but I always can find a way to overcome that. What we have to do in any circumstance with finding self motivation is find something that we want ourselves to work towards or something that we can achieve.

When I say finding something, I mean something that is tangible and realistic. If we try to shoot too far, we will only hurt ourselves in the long run. Having a goal that you want to reach is something that will naturally push you. It is all psychology, like I’ve said before we are our own worst enemy, but we can also be our own best friend. We have to treat ourselves, even if it means rewarding our efforts for moving towards the goal.Self Motivation paint your world

The biggest thing that will help is not being negative toward yourself. If you are negative you only will bring yourself back down, and you will be less motivated. So, just being positive about any outlook and rewarding yourself will prove to be a tremendous help.  Is it really that simple? Yes, it is. But again, each person will have their own ways of finding that drive within them to help, but having some sort of guidelines always helps.

With having a base down, we can move into something more, a bit of insight how self motivation works from within ourselves.

Motivation from Within

Being self motivated is one of the hardest things to do in life. It’s no wonder so many people fail at everyday life because in the end very few of us are self motivated. Making it to that point takes determination, and the belief that YOU can do it, that’s the true key.

I have gone through many ups and downs and the thought that failure is who you are seems to come a lot. But that is no excuse; one of the things that have benefited me tremendously is having a conscious mind and body, discovering who I am in order to move in that right direction. Self motivation is something that is very internal, you have to find it within yourself to do but a few pointers always helps.

Being Mindful and Centered

Being conscious of who you are only develops your being to much higher levels. “Knowing thy self” as they say is such a true statement. Only after you know you, is when you can motivate yourself beyond your current state of mind.

Yoga for Self Motivation

As silly as it might sound, what I’ve done is researched the practice of Yoga, Buddhism, and even Hinduism. Where some think that it is religious, each of these practices focuses on centering your mind, body and soul.

Yoga, through breathing practices and stretching and developing your own body, you calm your mind (as well as helping get in shape). What is awesome, is how yoga can literally be done anywhere. In your day you can always find even a few moments to just run through a small flow, the benefits are crazy. Even through my novice stages of practicing Yoga, I’ve learned a lot about myself.

Accepting Failure

It is inevitable to fall and to fail in life. But as long as you look for positive vibes and surround yourself with good vibes and positive energy every fall hurts less. Maintaining that self motivation through whatever way you might find, helps deter that fall and that hurt.

Failure happens, that is the biggest thing in the journey of success. But what we cannot let it do is stop us from pushing forward. Keep moving forward. Never give up. Success happens and failures come along with it. When talking about self motivation, we have to understand these things and take them into account.

Maintaining your Passions

Do something you enjoy, or find something you enjoy and get into that!

A peaceful mind is a rested mind. When you are constantly going it takes a serious toll on your mind and even on your body. Being calm and relaxed, helps maintain peace, which in turn will lead to easier self motivation.

Everything out there is for the taking. Motivation is our driving point. Whether we need a little push, or a hard shove to get us motivated and going, the first step is the most important step. After that step is taken, the road is easier to traverse.

Goal Setting is Arguably one of the most important things when you are trying to be self motivated. Well, lets say Goal setting is one of the most important things when heading forward to anywhere in life, not just being self motivated, but toward success as well.

The Most Important Part of a Guide to Self Motivation: Goal Setting

Having goals in your life is something that everyone has to have. Without goals we are just going through the motions of life, with no specific endgame. This is integral for us as humans to have something we are seeking to do in life. The thing is, how do we go about setting goals, and what are some things to think about when goal setting?

The key to that is to make sure they are attainable, but at the same time having a stretch goal that is a little further down the road. It is something that makes moving forward and having the motivation to reach your goals much easier.

Infinite Intelligence

Goals give us the motivation to keep moving forward. To keep pushing for that one thing that we want more than anything. Which is why I strongly recommend that you do set some yourself.

Always keep it in mind, it gives something to push for no matter what life throws at you. As we all know there are things that might hinder us, or even psychologically we think that we cannot get to a certain point because X Y and Z. Now is the time to forget that, get everything in line that way you are setting yourself up for success. After all, we have to know how to define success in order to help set our goals to get there.

You have to make sure that you know what you want, and in the end work towards those goals and attain them.

What Might be a Bit more Tricky is knowing what to Avoid in Self Motivation. Knowing what you have to avoid when being self motivated might not be asthetically important, but it involves giving your mindset something you absolutely need.

5 Things to Avoid when Being Self Motivated

What you might find is that no matter what you do, there will always be some sort of outside force holding you down. Well, that’s what we are here for, to give you a bit of a push, and even more insight on to what you should avoid when trying to be self motivated.

  1. Avoid Self Doubt
  2. Comparing Yourself to Others
  3. Overly Ambitious Goals
  4. Giving Up
  5. Losing Sight of Your End Goals

Now let’s break it down and dive a bit deeper into each of these.

Avoid Self Doubt

This is one of the most important things that you can do for yourself.

Self doubt is one thing which we all struggle at, at some point. The thing is, self doubt also is something that can bring us down lower than we could have ever imagined. Think about depression, this is one of those topics that is avoided due to the nature of it as a whole. But many times we can fall into something like this, just by doubting what we are capable of and or just not believing in ourselves.

So starting things off, we have to avoid self doubt if we are wanting to be self motivated. It just takes learning what goes on during the phases where we aren’t motivated.

Lets just say every bit of insight helps.

Don’t compare yourself

Comparisons definitely are a huge factor when it comes to not being motivated. Making it to our number 2 slot, you have to avoid comparing yourself to others.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been there and done that. I used to compare almost everything I was doing to what those around me were doing. That’s where I went wrong.

Not only does comparing bring you down, but you start to find yourself not seeing the little wins in your life. Each and every day we make progress toward our goals and dreams, but once we lose sight of that we fall further from the destination. Comparisons are a huge no no when we are trying to pursue self motivation, the thing is as well its unhealthy mentally. Mental health is a huge factor in self motivation, if we are always on top of our game we will be able to be the best that we can be.

With that let’s move on to number 3.

Avoid overly ambitious goals

Goal setting is one of the trickiest subjects to figure out, but when you do it will fast track you to living more motivated, and bettering yourself along the way.

When I say to avoid overly ambitious goals, I don’t mean just avoid the things that you dream about, but to start setting goals that are more realistic.

Smart goal setting is what the name of this game is, and when you start setting smart goals, you will find being more self motivated is much easier. Dreams are a bit different than goals, never give up on dreams but don’t set goals that are a bit much for the time frame that you are giving yourself. From there, you must get into that habit of setting your goals the right way.

Let’s keep this going.Ultimate Guide to Self Motivation

Giving Up

Now here is probably the most important things when being self motivated. Never give up. You cannot sit back and let things happen, you have to go out and keep moving forward, keep grinding, and never give up.

If you are serious about doing this for yourself, the words “Give Up” should never be in your vocabulary. One step at a time, like I said with setting smart goals, you have to take the steps in order to get where you want. Never, I repeat, never give up on your dreams. If there is a will there is a way.

No matter what, keep moving forward.

On to the last one!

Losing Your Endgame

The endgame is essentially your dream. Now this is what you must avoid. But the thing is, this key is the one that everything else ties into. You cannot lose sight of this, your goal, your success.

No matter what, there will always be things that you have to push to get passed, everything is about learning. You will learn that self motivation will come and go like I said, but without the things that you are striving for, motivation will never come.

Continuing on this Journey of self motivation might seem like a never ending circle, but in fact, all of the tools are there, you just have to know which are the right to use and which are not. One thing that I’ve found is very helpful, even in staying motivated during the day, are just checking out some motivational quotes, yes it might sound cheesy, but Motivational Quotes, even 1 per day can ultimately give you an edge when it comes to your next endeavor. Here are a few examples of awesome motivational quotes to continue with this Ultimate Guide to Motivation:

Motivational Quotes to be Self Motivated

These are the 10 best quotes and motivational thoughts that I find are a good driving force to get you over that edge in the future. Coming from people ranging from Steve Jobs to J.K. Rowling; these people are prime examples of what it really takes to get motivation and to be successful in the things that you do. With these quotes and thoughts, take them in stride and really think about them. Hopefully there is going to be something that you can take from this. Without further adieu lets get it:

1. Remind yourself that time is a non-renewable resource. Before you stop or say to yourself, “Okay great. I’m going to stop right there and finish the rest of it tomorrow,” just remember that you’ll never get this moment back in your life again.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.” -Steve Jobs

2. Think about all the people who told you that you’d never become successful in life. There’s nothing worse than having people who told you all your life that you would never become successful. Then watching it become a reality in front of you. That alone should be enough to motivate you to prove them wrong.

“Keep away from people who try to belittle you of your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” – Mark Twain

3. Imagine yourself being poor. Think you don’t have the time, money, energy or necessities to become successful….? Try putting yourself into a situation where you have nothing at all. (That includes transportation, education, housing, family & friends to support you and barely enough food to keep you alive.)

“It is our choice… to show what we truly are, far more than our capabilities.” -J.K. Rowling

Always push to make today count

Make life count, we always have something to keep going for, never give up. Shall we continue with the motivational quotes? I think so!

4. Remind yourself that we will all end up dying eventually. I don’t mean to rain down on your parade, but one day you’ll be sitting in a nursing home or lying in your hospital bed; thinking about the life and your dreams you gave up all because you let the fear of failure and the doubt of others get the best of you. (Tough luck my friends.)

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover.” -Mark Twain

Keep Moving forward

Finding success is always a journey. Finding the way to motivate yourself along that journey is a big key. Now lets get back into the last 5!

5. Imagine success as a game. Like losing?  How about competing against people who think they’re better than you? Can you imagine if they beat you to everything you worked your whole life for?

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” -Alice Walker

6. Remember that the World stops for no one, and it definitely doesn’t owe you anything either. Nobody’s going to make you do anything in life. You have to earn it yourself. That’s just how it goes my friends.

“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.” -Amelia Earhart

7. Remind yourself that if you give up, you give up your dreams. Not only do you give up your dreams, but you also go back to where you started. The worse part is getting trapped there.

“Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs.”

Failure and Success Happen

It happens, we cannot get away from that fact. When you find that one thing to motivate you, failure doesn’t seem as bad.

8. Remember that everyone who has ever tried to become successful has failed at least once in their life. Think about Elon Musk, the entrepreneur who almost went bankrupt and almost sold his companies to his competitors. But then made a huge comeback in history. Your ability to react to fear and failure shows how driven you are to get back up.

“Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it.” -Charles Swindoll

9. Remind yourself whether or not you want to be the person everyone else talks about, or the person who talks about everyone else. It’s your choice.

“Small people talk about others, average people talk about things and leaders talk about ideas.”

10. Remind yourself that all the suffering and hardships you go through is worth it in the end. No matter how many hardships you go through; how many people tell you you’re wrong or how many times you fail; just remember that you’ll find that it’s more than worth it in the end.

“The only person you are destined to become is the person who you choose to be.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Think about it this way: If you never go through hard times in life, than how can you expect yourself to be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead? Like I said earlier, your ability to react to failure is what makes you stronger.
