You Choose your Life | Life Lessons

Life is all about making choices.

If you were ever told that you don’t have a choice about something, well they were wrong. You choose your life, no one else has that luxury.

You choose your life. This world is full of things we can use as negative fuel, but letting those around you influence how you want to live, is just wasteful. There are a million and one things that you might want to do, or even want to please others with, but ultimately, everything is up to you.

No matter what, give everything a chance, however when it comes to the decision making process, no one is in charge of you, except you.

Lets use a personal example.

I’ve spent most of my life pleasing others, and doing what I thought would be best, because someone else said it would be. Unfortunately (especially now) all of that was wrong. The whole approach basically wasted my time and brainpower. I played baseball for the majority of my youth (14 years in total), did I like the sport yeah. Well at least I thought so, but I wasn’t given a choice but to play. My father didn’t give me the choice, not even to play another sport, I had to keep playing. Granted my skill level always was very high, as well as my physical ability, but as I got older, my mind wasn’t in it, yet I played on.

For the most part I brushed it off, but it came to a point where I got injured, where I realized I didn’t want to continue. I tore an oblique muscle in my back, and after barely being able to walk, physical therapy, rehab, and getting strength back, I confronted him. I was told I couldn’t quit, nor stop now (my senior year of high school). As sad as I might have been, I sucked it up and kept playing. I didn’t start another baseball game the rest of my school career. Where I had and still have the talent to walk on and play collegiate baseball, I refuse to.

The funny thing is, my relationship with my father dwindled down further and further. Until one night he told me “If I was on my own right now, I would fail”. Now, me being the person I am, that proved to me that he didn’t know me, he didn’t know my strengths, weaknesses, nor drive. So it broke me. After that night I didn’t speak to him for nearly 2 years. 2 years where I would need my father to teach me things, those same things I taught myself.

Lets take a step back and apply this.

Choosing your path

Choosing your life is the most important thing you can do for yourself. Regardless of what anyone tells you, the choice is yours. You might want to again, please others, but ultimately, you never can let anyone tell you that you cannot do something. Dreams are the things that keep you moving, keep you pushing harder on the journey. Letting someone else dictate that is toxic.

Fortunately, we as humans do have a choice. We have the minds, and the brainpower in order to make the decisions and solve the complex problems.

For me, I found my passion doing the things I love. Inspiring, motivating, and empowering others gives me the drive to keep going. Between this site, and working on a clothing brand, and implementing my obsession with cars to another business, I found my path.

I want you to take away the idea that, you choose your life. You lay the path to walk for the rest of your days. If you have a dream, go and get it. Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something or that you would fail. That is fuel to your fire, and a yearning to prove everyone who ever doubted you wrong.

Never Give Up.

  1. I like how you turn the idea that we choose our own lives into a positive one. I think many people use that in a negative way to shame others.

    • I find it a bit much that people would turn it negatively. It happens I suppose, but with me, I’ve tried to turn things into a more positive light, as it expresses more closely what I feel.

Granted I do see things from all angles, but when it comes to motivation and inspiration, negativity won’t do anything, especially when I don’t find myself to be a negative person.

Thank you for reading!! I am definitely glad you enjoyed!

  2. Totally relate. I grew up in silmilar fashion with loads of wasted years. The biggest mistakes of my life were made while I was going against my core in order to try to do what I thought someone else wanted. Great post. ?
